  • Ok so I’m not too TOO familiar with this author. I think I’ve tried to read her books before and couldn’t get through them because of errors and things that just doesn’t make sense. I’ll give some examples using this particular book. And I don’t usually give reviews but this happens a lot with other authors as well. and being the fact this author is sort of like a vet in the game warrants a review from me so maybe she can work on it. Ok, so For one I like the plot of the book.....But that’s where it ends there. So the first thing I noticed Was that when the main character was shot all of a sudden the paramedic which is the heroine of the book was on the scene. HOW SWAY?! And apparently the brother of the main male character Shielded the main female character from bullets...how could she have gotten there that fast and be caught up in gun fire??? It just doesn’t make sense. that bothered me a lot. Another thing I noticed was that she was supposed to rehabilitate the main male character and when he went to her house to help her move it said that he went to call his brother to pick him up and then he jogged back up to her...JOGGED..........so what is he being rehabilitated for if he can jog and move around fine...he’s out the house already...like it just wasn’t making sense to me. I couldn’t finish the book....I know the book is fiction but you’re talking about real life stuff so make it realistic.
  • Omg 😮 that damn Ty was a whole mess this dude and his mouth had me CTFU. Modella ass needs her ass whipped she’s like a fly that won’t leave you alone like Bruh WTF every time you turn around she’s right there.. Michelle ass might as well face the music Ty is her babe and ain’t nothing she can do about it... I swear I can’t wait to read part 2
  • This book was everything from beginning to end drama action couple up and down suspenseful revelations reveal can't wait for part two enjoyed reading
  • Really loved this book from beginning to end and what a ending. Right off the bat it held my attention and I couldn't put it down.....a page-turner. Really loved Ty and Michelle together and he don't play about his Wife. They're good for each other. The bond is good between the brothers and I loved how they ride for each other. Kylan is way too calm and Tonette deserves whatever she gets. I can't wait for Modella to get exactly what she deserves. After that ending, I can't wait to see what happens next. Good job Toy.
  • Great read!!! Modella was too outta control all because Ty didn’t want her, but why would he when it’s always been just sex. She gonna get herself and Marry killed. Ty’Kym is bringing Mi belle out, I think she good for him. Mark is a hater, he better quit before he be swimming with the fishes. Tonette really messed up, I’m scared for her cause Kylan is too quiet. You gotta watch the quiet ones. Can’t wait for part 2.
  • Wow Toy you did it again with great book!! Your writing style is getting better each time to you a new book. That Ty is a sexy and hilarious bae that he kept me laughing. Him and Michelle make a great couple. I will be so glad when Modella get what she deserve and hope it is explosive with hoeness self. Tonette was so wrong to do Kylan because she was only and he was helping his brother to find who shot!! Can't wait for part 2 because it will be explosive with that sexy Ty in state of murder on his mind if something happen to his wifey!!
  • I gave two stars because I loved the storyline but it was so rushed and all over the place to the point I couldn’t finish it . How do you get hired for a job by complete stranger basically and leave your kid in his care and then the brothers care and it only being your second day at the house ? Then how is she hired for a job when she first meets TY he’s in a wheel chair struggling to stand but then he gets his keys to drive to the strip club ? Or he’s lifting her son up or have sex lifting her up but still had stitches in ?
  • I'm mad as h#!!, I never would have read it if I knew I had to wait for part 2. Get it together TOY, you can't leave us hanging like that, Ima need Mozzarella to die like in the beginning of part 2, don't leave us waiting long plllllleeeeeaaaassssseeeee!!!

The Secret Orphan Glynis Peters Books Reviews

  • the book could have undergone at least one more edit, assuming it had already had at least one. Misplaced modifiers galore. Missing punctuation. Transitions? Very few. I could go on. At the end I wondered whether this line of books is supposed to read like the Reader's Digest Condensed version. Or, as I suspect, editors don't edit anymore. The 4 stars are for storyline.
  • The Secret Orphan is by Glynis Peters. This book is set in England beginning in 1940 during World War II. It also skips to the present, nearly sixty years later, where a woman is dying and she begins to relive her life.
Elenor was summoned to her Aunt’s home and reluctantly went. At least she was getting away from being a slave to her brothers. The only affection she had had was when her Mother was alive. Their Dad had a very stubborn opinion that women were only there to take care of their man. Therefore, it was her responsibility to take care of him and her twin brothers. When he died, things just became more difficult for Elenor. Then, their Aunt summoned her to come take care of her. Her brothers simply said goodbye and left it at that. Elenor loved her family farm but knew there was no place for her. At her Aunt’s home, she was expected to take care of her aunt and learn to be a lady. It was difficult for Elenor; but she did her best. Her aunt lived in a house with a housekeeper and her husband and daughter. George, the husband, was a tutor and was gone a lot. Victoria cooked and kept house while raising their daughter, Rose. Other than giving her a place to stay and food to eat, neither paid much attention to Ruth. Ruth and Elenor became good friends as both were lonely. For Rose, Elenor put up with George’s chauvinistic ways. Then, her aunt died leaving Elenor alone. She went back to the family farm for safety and because it was now hers alone since both boys were killed in the war. Can she run the farm by herself?
Rose was a darling little girl who was very bright and a brilliant pianist, even at five. Her parents gave her food and shelter but didn’t give her love. Victoria was lucky to be able to find a position which allowed her husband and daughter to live with her. Victoria was careful to keep Rose away from the main house when possible. After Elenor left for the farm, Rose and her Mother stayed at the house, keeping it going. George was in London on a trip and died in the Blitz. When bombers flew over Coventry, their house was hit. Rose was found alive in the ruin but Victoria was dead. Where was Rose to go since her family was wiped out. Of course, to Elenor. Can she survive the nightmares of the raid? Will Rose adjust to the country?
The book is great. It shows clearly the complicated life a woman had during
  • The lack of editing is so bad, it takes what might have been an interesting plot & likeable characters & turns them into annoying exercises in patience. There's a reason it was only 99 cents. If you've got nothing else to read, this might do.
  • The best parts of the story are scenes of everyday life at the worst parts of the war. The number of people it took to work on a farm, raising food not just for themselves but overseen by officials trying to produce for everyone is fascinating. The fact that the healthy young men that would have been doing this work were away at war or dead, so it was done by women. The Wikipedia article on Coventry has some historical background to explain a few things that probably most British know but most Americans don't - and a particular plot point isn't explained in the book.
  • I loved the book. The characters were so real. It was really a good book but I was not happy with the ending, I thought it should of said more. But I still enjoyed it.
  • Interesting story. I think the character development could have been done better. I found the writing stilted and some things went totally without explanation.
There was a mention by Jackson that he had received a picture of a plane from Rose asking about the plane he flew. Rose said she did not send that. The matter was dropped there rather than used as a hint that Rose's father had ulterior motives.
Elenor left servants she did not like nor trust in charge of her home and belongings. There had even been evidence that the man had been pilfering her aunts belongings.
Over and over, situations were presented that nothing came of. Too many loose ends.
  • How i loved this book!! A story of love and compassion. It had humor and the author had a good knowledge of human behavior. The story line kept moving and was hard to put down. Very goid
  • I ound the characters rather weak and although the parts relating to the farming during the war were interesting I think it failed to show how exhausted most of the workers were. What I didn't like was in fact the ending. I would point out that over 20,000 German POW's stayed in the UK after the war along with over 25,000 Italians that even went home and returned with their families. So to imply that Eleanor would have simply lost the child was totally wrong as we know many Jewish children that arrived in the UK were fostered and later adopted without any problems. Nobody would have considered at that time sending any child back to Germany.

There's no place like home....

Kim and Julian Taylor are in the market for their first home, and a visit to the secluded Beacon estate finds them enamored. It's a peculiar home, rather large and in need of some renovations. The price is right, however, and after a tour, they snap the house up without hesitation.

The man who sells them the house has one last detail to share before they sign on the dotted line. The previous owners of the home disappeared under mysterious circumstances nearly eight years ago and have recently been declared dead in absentia. Unperturbed by this fact, Kim and Julian set about making the home their own.

It quickly becomes clear that the two of them are not alone there, however.

This volume contains all four installments of the serialized novel Black Acres In Absentia, The Borderland, The Amber Light, and In Darkness. It also contains a brief preface by the author.

"Although I read a lot I rarely write reviews. A book has to be really good or really bad to prompt me to write a review. This book was REALLY GOOD. Scary without being gory. Very scary as a matter of fact. I told my husband I would never read it if he was going to be out of town. The only thing I can say that might be construed as a negative is the author's use of some words which, in some cases, I do not feel were used correctly in the sentences they appeared and in other cases I felt they did not flow with the rest of the writing style. However, this did not prevent my overall enjoyment of the book nor would it prevent me from reading other books by this author."

Black Acres The Complete Collection Audible Audio Edition Ambrose Ibsen Joe Hempel Books Reviews :

Black Acres The Complete Collection Audible Audio Edition Ambrose Ibsen Joe Hempel Books Reviews

  • Repetative. Unlikable protagonists. 2 stars because I skimmed through to the end, but it took awhile, had to keep putting it down because the characters kept doing ridiculous things. "We have to leave, there's something horrible happening in this house! " 10 minutes later, some character - "This house is fine, I'm very comfortable here." Ugh.
  • The premise for this book is good, but the way the story is told makes it tedious reading. The author tells the story of the strange happenings at Kim and Julian's new house through Kim's thoughts. The author tells the reader what Kim is thinking, page after page after page, over and over and over. Occasionally something happens. Kim screams, husband Julian comes running, and Julian explains it away with logic. He doesn't believe her, so eventually she stops telling him things. Then one day Kim freaks out and wants to leave. He agrees to take her away from the house so they can discuss it. Of course, the car won't start. Instead of calling for help, they stay in the house, have dinner, watch a movie, and fall asleep on the couch. When she awakens in the middle of the night, she starts wandering through the house. Really? Spoiler alert The bad thing is upstairs. Julian awakes to Kim's screaming and finds her unquestionably dead in a closet. He goes downstairs to get the phone to call for help, but when he gets back upstairs, the body is gone. At this point, he hangs up on the dispatcher. Again, really?! The rest of the story involves Julian's thoughts, page after page after page, as he searches for his wife. Is she alive? Dead? At no point does he try to leave or get help from the authorities. The ending is predictable. These characters are unsympathetic and not very smart. Things happened that were supposed to be scary, but they just made me laugh. This book is poorly written and ridiculous.
  • The writer does a very good job building suspense, but then does little with it. My first question is, why are these two people, the main characters, married? They don't seem to particularly like each other. She refers to him as a bully, and he is very condescending toward her. How could the old man possibly be an apparition? He drives a pickup. What is the signifigance of the white masks? They're mentioned several times. What, exactly, was Dakota's baby, and where did it come from? Why is Dakota always naked? There are too many loose ends--I kept reading, almost all night, and got very few answers. There are some very poignant moments, however, when the old couple are waiting for their 'child' to come home. The writer shines in those scenes. It is too bad the main characters weren"t more likable--their lack of a personal connection with each other detracts from the story.
  • Although I read a lot I rarely write reviews. However, this did not prevent my overall enjoyment of the book nor would it prevent me from reading other books by this author.
  • One of the best in the horror genre that I've read in quite a long time. I'm rather a veteran of the genre, and it takes a lot to spook me. This one certainly did. I have some minor quibbles with the main characters - I would have preferred to like them more, greater pathos. Regardless ... Excellent read!
  • The concept is good and interesting but the plot was not well de developed it listed the trail at some points and the end felt hurried, there are some details that are not answered.
  • I enjoyed getting to know the characters, and the supernatural twist. I don't really enjoy malformed creatures in books. It is hard to picture them in my mind.
  • Some scarry parts worth reading. I would have liked it to move faster, but it really painted an eerie picture!

Everything Handmaids wear is red the colour of blood, which defines us.

Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead, where women are prohibited from holding jobs, reading, and forming friendships. She serves in the household of the Commander and his wife, and under the new social order she has only one purpose once a month, she must lie on her back and pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, because in an age of declining births, Offred and the other Handmaids are valued only if they are fertile. But Offred remembers the years before Gilead, when she was an independent woman who had a job, a family, and a name of her own. Now, her memories and her will to survive are acts of rebellion.

Provocative, startling, prophetic, The Handmaid’s Tale has long been a global phenomenon. With this stunning graphic novel adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s modern classic, beautifully realized by artist Renée Nault, the terrifying reality of Gilead has been brought to vivid life like never before.Age Range Adult

The Handmaid Tale Graphic Novel A Novel Margaret Atwood Renee Nault 9780385539241 Books Reviews

  • I ordered the graphic novel and that’s what showed up—because I actually read the item description before ordering and haven’t worked over the ratings for it to make up for my mistake.
  • I purchased this book thinking it was a novel. It is actually a comic book - granted, made very well and with some nice artistry, but I was wanting to read the original source novel. For "Handmaid's Tale" enthusiasts this might be a nice collectors item but it it not the original book. I reread the description on and can't find where it makes this clear. Maybe that's what "graphic novel" means - but I was not aware of this. Sorry that I originally gave this item a poor rating. My fault that I didn't know what "graphic novel" meant. Still, others might make the same mistake and hope this clarifies what you are buying.
  • I purchased this knowing full well what a graphic novel was! I was looking forward to receiving the hardcover, and viewing the detailed art/illustrations by Renee Nault. I’ve read the book itself, listened to the Audible version and follow the series on Hulu. I like Graphic novels also. This is a fine hardcover (even The Walking Dead Compendiums are not hardcovers)!

Kudos to Renée Nault on her work on this, beautiful crafted artwork, tastefully done in a world of dark times for all woman owned by Gilead. Showing light, bright and shades of dark colors all where needed within the storyline. The eyes are the windows to the soul - Human souls here showing good, bad and ones will.

It’s really easy to follow the flow of the story/illustrations, typesetting. Glad I made this purchase - looking forward to see what else Renée brings forth! Maybe the upcoming release in September of The Testaments?! Also thanks Margaret Atwood for such a great book!

    Nolite te bastardes carborundorum!
  • I'm apparently an idiot because I didn't realize that graphic novel meant an adult comic book. I thought graphic meant explicit. I don't care, laugh at me. I was so disappointed I haven't even looked at the book, nevermind read it.
  • Very disappointed. It's a comic book. The tv show gives more details and an actual story.
  • The drawings evoke a range of emotion, beautifully done. It was shorter than I anticipated - quick read! First graphic novel I've read, so wasn't sure what to expect. Very pleasant surprise.
  • I couldn’t even read it on my because the words were too small. I thought it would get past the cartoon part, but it never did. The whole book was pictures and writings.
  • Beautiful and heartbreaking, just like the original novel and the amazing tv series. Everyone should read this, and then read it again.
